As a Coach I work hard to keep my blog in the realm of sharing information so people can make their own choices and decisions. This always feels especially important as a Health and Wellness Coach where my role is to empowering healthy choices.
There are, however, days when I use myself as an example or share something (books, recipes, podcasts) that offer a jumping off point for further exploration. If you follow me on Facebook you likely saw the link I posted to Bloody Mary Juice. I have been 'juicing' for more than a year as a way to add whole foods and increased macronutrients into my diet. Admittedly most of us could use more fruits and veg each day - how you get them is up to you - what matters is that you honor the method that fits your life and keep the practice.
I enjoy a Bloody Mary from time to time, quite possibly it is my favorite adult drink, so when I came across this recipe I wasted no time peeling a carrot. I didn't have red or orange pepper at lunch so I used the yellow one in the crisper draw and added some lime and a dash of cayenne. I enjoy a splash of lime in my Bloody - and this juice was excellent. By far the best fresh juice I have ever consumed.
It was so good I went on a farm stand run to purchase peppers and more tomatoes so I could make it again for dinner. This time I added celery, cucumber and ginger. Celery is a classic with a Bloody Mary and I often add cukes to a juice when I want more volume. Their mild flavor mixes well with most other juices and their high water content yields plenty of juice per cucumber. I add ginger to most of my juices, you can't beat the nutrition and I love the taste. Besides I forgot to pick up horseradish and I like my Bloody Mary spicy. I omitted the oregano - not my favorite - but I increased the basil which is a favorite herb.
Next time I make this (later today, let's be real) I'm going to blend the juice with a ripe avocado for a thicker, gazpacho like soup. I will also be making a pitcher for my next brunch and yes, the vodka will be close at hand. It's about balance folks, veggies + some vodka at brunch = balance.
Bloody Mary Juice recipe was featured on the Reboot With Joe website. If you are at all interested in juicing and or plant based eating this is a terrific resource.
